What we do
Engineering Services for Critical Operations
Every deliverable is engineered in accordance with ASME P30.1, developed in accordance with BS 7121, planned in line with LOLER 1998, and engineered in accordance with the ASME B30 series for rigging hardware.
Lift Planning
From routine single-crane picks to high-consequence critical lifts and multi-crane tandem operations, we produce the full engineering package required for safe, compliant execution.
Standard Lift Plans (SLP)
Prepared for routine single-crane lifts below 80% of rated chart capacity in non-hazardous areas. We verify the crane configuration, operating radius and chart capacity for the pick. Minimum crane mat sizes are set for the outrigger loads, and sling tensions are calculated to confirm the working load limit (WLL) required for each item of rigging. Plans are issued as 2D CAD elevations and site plans, with a 3D option.
Critical Lift Plans (CLP)
Prepared for high-consequence operations: lifts above 80% of rated chart capacity, or over live hydrocarbon or process equipment. One submittal brings together the full engineering for the lift. It covers crane configuration and load chart verification, 3D centre of gravity verification, the rigging engineering study, ground bearing pressure and crane matting design, and a site-specific RAMS. Drawings include plans, elevations and isometric views, issued in 2D as standard or in 3D.
Tandem Lift Studies
When two or more cranes share a load, the load carried by each crane changes as the load moves, rotates or is upended. We model the hook trajectory through each stage of the operation and calculate each crane's share at every critical position. Multi-crane chart deratings are then applied, so no crane exceeds its permitted capacity at any point in the lift.
2D & 3D CAD
Every lift plan is supported by scaled CAD drawings. They show crane position, boom geometry, operating radius, swing arcs and tailing sequences within the site layout. Drawings are issued in 2D as standard. 3D models are available for Standard and Critical Lift Plans where congested sites or complex geometry call for them.
Rigging Engineering
Below-the-hook rigging is engineered from the load's centre of gravity outwards. We model the centre of gravity in 3D and calculate the tension in each sling leg from the actual geometry and sling angles. Load distribution across spreader bars and lifting beams is then determined. The study concludes with a rigging hardware Bill of Materials (BOM), listing each sling, shackle and lifting component with its required working load limit.
Ground Bearing Pressure & Matting Requirements
We provide full engineering analysis of outrigger and crawler track loads against subgrade capacity, and specify appropriate matting systems to distribute loads safely.
Ground Bearing Pressure
We calculate the ground bearing pressure beneath outrigger pads and crawler tracks for the planned crane configuration and load case. Pressure profiles are produced across the full bearing area. Peak pressures are then compared with the allowable subgrade capacity.
Crane Mat Design
Design of crane mats, outrigger pads and access matting in steel, timber, synthetic or other materials. Each mat is sized to keep the load within the allowable subgrade bearing pressure. Includes flexural and shear checks, plus a CAD matting layout drawing.
Risk Assessment & Method Statement
Each RAMS is written for the specific site, crane and load. Hazards are identified and scored on a 5x5 likelihood and severity matrix, both before and after control measures. The method statement sets out the lifting procedure step by step, from preparation and set-up through the lift to completion. Hold points, communication protocols, environmental limits and emergency procedures are defined at each stage. A briefing record is included for the lift team to sign before work begins. Included with every Critical Lift Plan and available for any other lift.
Specialised Transport Planning
Transport engineering for abnormal and out-of-gauge loads, from plant gates to load-out jetties.
SPMT & Pull-Type Trailer Engineering
We engineer the movement of heavy and out-of-gauge loads on self-propelled modular transporters (SPMTs) and pull-type trailers. Each study starts with trailer configuration selection, payload centre of gravity analysis and axle load distribution. Ground bearing pressure beneath the transporter is then checked. Hydraulic and structural stability are verified for the loaded configuration. All forces acting on the transporter and payload are analysed. Finally, lashing requirements are specified to secure the payload in transit.
Swept-Path Analysis
Swept-path modelling traces the outline of the transporter and its payload along the planned route. It shows the space the load needs through bends, junctions and site entrances.
